Middle School Students

International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP)

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) is for students in grades 6-10 and provides a framework of academic challenge and life skills appropriate to this stage of adolescence. The IBMYP offers a holistic approach that emphasizes critical thinking skills, global citizenship, and intercultural awareness, as well as traditional school subjects.

The curriculum consists of eight subject groups integrated through five interactive areas providing global contexts for learning: Approaches to Learning, Community and Service, Health and Social Education, Environments, and Human Ingenuity. The eight academic subjects required each year for grades 6-8 of the IBMYP are: English-Language and Literature, World Language- Language Acquisition, Mathematics, Science, Humanities (Social Studies), Fine Arts, Technology (Design), and Physical and Health Education.

In grades 9-10 of the IBMYP, students have the option to take courses from six of the eight subject groups. In their final year (grade 10), students will also undertake an independent ‘personal project’ to demonstrate the development of their skills and understanding.
